North Hills is one of several post World War I and pre-World War II subdivisions that has attracted prominent Knoxvillians, including Cas Walker and Patricia Neal. The area, built over 185 acres, features quaint homes with unique architectural styles including Tudor, Spanish Eclectic and Colonial Revival.

More than 150 homes are listed on the National and Tennessee Registers of Historic Places. If you live on the boulevards, your house may be included. The neighborhood has been described by the Tennessee Historical Commission as a good example of mid-20th century residential architecture, and homeowners are proud to keep the architectural integrity of their 1920s-1930s era homes.

It’s a very walkable community. Residents can also access the .4 mile North Hills Greenway which is used for running, biking, skating or walking dogs. It’s wheelchair accesable and connects to North Hills Park. Created by the active North Hills Garden Club, families enjoy the gazebo, picnic area, playground and water fountain.

*Data below is based on MLS info. from 12/2013 – 12/2014:

  • Average sold price: $113,636**
  • Average square feet: 1,506
  • Average days on market: 115
  • Average year built: 1920s

** A note from Amy: The data about the average price of homes sold is low for North Hills due to some foreclosures over the past year in that neighborhood that pull down the average. Perspective homebuyers should be aware that there can be bidding wars over these older homes, especially those located on North Hills Boulevard.
