5 Local Spots to Grab a Drink with Guests

At any given time of year you may have out of town guests visiting with you in Knoxville. Here are five spots locals love that we’re sure your visiting guests will enjoy too. Heading out for a drink and bite to eat not only gives you a chance to catch up, but also offers them a chance to experience Knoxville’s local vibe.

There are no directional signs indicating this local gathering spot is part of the Market Square scene. The hidden speakeasy is part of the Oliver Hotel and opens daily at 8 am for all you coffee and cocktail needs. Menus featuring drinks named for fictional characters are hidden in the bookshelves, so grab a world  encyclopedia on your way to your seat. Entry to the library is located behind the front desk.

2. Central Flats & Taps

Located in historic Happy Holler, Flats & Taps offers great food, great beer and work by local artists. Follow their Facebook page for a Live Beer List, specials and an overview of events they’re hosting. The patio is a great space to hang out when the weather is nice.

3. The Public House

Knoxville’s Public House is a neighborhood bar on Magnolia Ave. with no TV, no live music, and no smoking. They do have specialty cocktails, beer and southern inspired food. Make reservations to take your visiting guests to the Sunday Supper and you won’t have to cook dinner!

4. Calhoun’s

There are several locations, but we like the one located on the Tennessee River if you want to give visiting guests a parting scenic view. The food menu features some of the best barbecue and there is a separate gluten free menu — offering something for most anyone. It’s the place to go to enjoy a handcrafted microbrew from the Smokey Mountain Brewing Company.

5. Crafty Bastard Brewery

Located in Emory Place, this nanobrewery is minutes from downtown’s Old City. They specialize in unconventional craft beers. Check the website to see which Food Trucks will be on hand to feed you and to see what type of unique activities or specials they have going on.

What’s you’ve favorite spot to bring visiting guests?
